Our paintings are journeys, visual diaries of both outward travels and inward explorations. There can be great benefit to looking through our work chronologically to revisit those explorations and to see the unfolding and progression of our lives and work.

Artist William Marvin wrote to us to share his painting travels which he has documented in a book titled Grace Notes - Reflections on Everyday Wonders. He writes, "Grace Notes is a collection of paintings and personal stories about the enormous beauty revealed to me while traveling the back roads of this great country . . . A sense of freedom comes to me whenever I load my camping and painting gear into the van. My tireless companion is Rocky, an English Black Lab, a wonderful dog always ready for a hike into the unknown."

Marvin studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Chicago for many years. He returned to his landscape painting and travels in the mid '90s. He exhibits his work in regional invitational exhibitions and participates in plein air painting events.

From his book:  "When you least expect it, a visual experience will overcome you, challenging you to slow down, open your eyes, and feel the quiet power of Nature. It will take your breath away, it will bring tears to your eyes, you will feel humbled and grateful. These are moments of natural beauty, generously handed down from above."

The benefit of compiling and publishing one's work in a book goes beyond just reaching a wider audience. It can also be a most beneficial introspective exercise. Thank you, William Marvin, for sharing your work with us.
