The devastation to Asheville and western North Carolina from Hurricane Helene has been apocalyptic. Even with the massive influx of aid workers, it will take years to rebuild into the vibrant arts community it was. In the meantime, although the basic necessities of clean water, passable roads and electricity are being restored, the livelihood of artists dependent on the trade and tourism of Asheville is gone. They could use our help.

Three years ago, we interviewed Cindy Wheeler, an artist now experiencing the heartbreaking havoc wreaked by Helene and looking to the uncertainty of being an artist in Asheville - Voices of Experience: Cindy Wheeler. She has been witness to the beauty of her home and honored it in her work. She is now witness to the destruction. We thought we would update her interview with a few of her more recent works. To see even more and/or to contact her, visit Cindy Wheeler Paints

Another way to support Asheville artists is through the River Arts District website. 80% of the River Arts District buildings (home to more than 300 artists in galleries and studios) were significantly damaged by the hurricane and flooding.
